Digital Radiography (DR)
Technology
Dr. Leslie Windman is the first Atlas Orthogonist and Upper Cervical Doctors to introduce the use of digital technology (DR) with computerized analysis in the Maryland/D.C and Northern Virginia Region to better serve their patients.
The simplest way to describe the basis of digital technology is to relate to the personal digital camera.
Before the digital age, people had cameras that had to be loaded with bulky rolls of film, that not only were difficult to load but you were unable to magnify, delete or view each image upon capture. You then had to get the film developed using a lot of chemicals before you could see your finished product. And at that point, you still had processed film strips to archive for future reference.
With the introduction of digital technology you can now take your picture, view it within seconds, change the brightness, dullness, see the detail by "zooming in" on the image. By adjusting the image brightness and/or contrast, a wide range of thickness may be examined in one exposure, unlike conventional film radiography, which may require a different exposure or multiple film speeds in one exposure to cover wide thickness range in a component.
Digital Radiography along with computerized analysis offers our patients the opportunity to see up close the detail that is not offered with plain film radiography. Images can be enhanced digitally to aid in interpretation and treatment.
Digital Radiography captures the image directly onto a flat panel without the use of a cassette or scanner!
